The thrifty man

Thank you for tuning into this week's Gospel According to Elder Bybee.
This week's thought comes from Chapter 4, verse 23

For whoso is fashionable, and thrifty,
unto the obtaining of goodly pearls of great price,
for little cash,
will be blessed with more cash.
For he that pays little,
has much.
And he that pays much,
has little.

I bear witness from personal experience that this is true.  Budgeting...now that is a useful talent I DO NOT have...but I am working on it hahaha.

Bryn got baptized this week!!!  It was a great experience.  He was so happy, and just filled with the spirit, and his mom came, and it was just a good experience:)  He's thinking about a mission, so that's pretty cool!  I also heard that an investigator from Hamilton I was teaching for a while decided to get baptized!  Super pumped for that as well!:)

This week's been super busy!  No time to tract, but I'm not complaining:)  This week we should have a bit more time to contact and things, so I'm grateful for that.  Overall things are good!  Loving it here
in Kingston:)

What can I say?  Life's good:)  Love you all!

"For God so loved the 6"

I'd like to direct your attention this week to one of my favorite scriptures.
Turn with me to The Gospel According to Bybee Chapter 2 verse 3

3 For God so loved the "6",
that He sent the Dream Team(Elders Bybee and Beddes),
   that whosoever should
   meet with them,
   would learn about Jesus,
   and be baptized.

Thank you for joining us this week in The Gospel According to Elder Bybee.
Tune in next week for more.

Hahaha so that pretty much describes our week lol.  I've never been more busy in my entire life, like holy cow.  We had 30 minutes to contact and tract this week...and appointment every other moment of the week.  It's crazy!!!  I've never taught so much in my entire life, it's insane.  Like holy cow I thought tracting and contacting was tiring...teaching literally just gets you so tired so quick.  You're in the lesson and things are going so well, and the spirit's so strong and your bearing testimony like every 5 seconds and you get out of the lesson and your so pumped and 5 minutes later your dead tired. But your already at the next appointment, so you pray, and somehow get more energy, and do the same thing all over again...ALL DAY LONG.  We've been cutting dinner and lunch short cuz we just have no time, it's been crazy...I'm so tired.  And I love it:)

Highlight of the week came in meeting the most chill guys I've ever met...

Ebenezer is a black guy from Quatar, whose best friend left to serve a mission and now goes to school at BYU.  He loves basketball, and is SO chill.  His friend Daniel invited us over for a gospel discussion.  So we walk into this house, and see 8 college guys chillin on the couch playing 2K...we're thinking to ourselves, "Great...they're gonna throw down and bash on us for the next hour."
PSYCH.  We sit down, and they start asking us all about our missions and what it's like to be a missionary, and why we do what we do, and what's it like when people accept our message, how do we feel when they reject it, just everything!  It was so sick.  They invited us to a group event with their organization at Queens University, and introduced us as their "Sick mormon friends from Utah."  Everyone was so chill, and asking us a ton of questions about our church and how it's different from every other church and what not.  Hahaha if we had wanted to, we could've counted em' as like 45 new investigators.  But we didn't haha:)  We're playing basketball and having a lesson with Ebenezer(Ebe) tonight.

Man, what can I say?  The church is true, Elder Beddes is sick, and life's good as a missionary:)

I love you all!

Life as a King

Well well, what can I say??  We're living the life in Kingston:)  First off, Elder Beddes is SUPER legit, and flippin hilarious hahaha:)  We get along super well, maybe too well sometimes haha.  But no, it's been crazy!!!  The Lord has clearly made manifest unto us that His hand is here in this work.

I'd like to start off with a couple fun facts about Kingston:)
  • Brigham Young spent 30 days in Kingston....and baptized 42 people...word
  • President Monson took missionaries out of Kingston for a couple months after a year of hardly any baptisms.  Then he started a rumor that there was a new city opening up where Brigham Young baptized 42 people in 30 days.  Suddenly, all the missionaries want to go there.  A couple months go by, he picked some missionaries, sent them to Kingston, and they baptized a ton of people.
With that in mind, listen up to our week:)

Day 1: Tuesday
Whitewash into the area, get there around 4 pm, no idea what's going on.  Go to see a member, and they bring 2 new people for us to teach.  Thank you Lord.

Day 2: Wednesday
Meet with a relatively new investigator, and set him with a date for November 25, cuz he's so legit and knows everything's true...Thank you Lord.

Days 1-7:
Dinner appointments every night...Thank you Lord.

Day 6: Saturday
Go over to do some service for an excommunicated member of the church, who wants to be re-baptized and wants us to teach her all the new lessons...Thank you Lord

Day 7: Sunday
Random Former Investigator shows up to church, and now we're seeing him on Thursday.  Members want us over for dinner every night, and on top of that....there's a YSA group who meets here (prayers are answered brothers and sisters).  Then, while walking around tracting, we run into a former investigator who has decided he wants to take the lessons again.  Thank you Lord.

Hahaha needless to say, this week's been nuts....and it's so crazy though!! Like we had nothing to do with it...I've gained such a strong testimony lately that "The Lord is able to do His own work."

He SO completely does not need us...He can lead people to the church if He wants.  Examples of that have been apparent this week.  But it's so humbling to feel the trust Heavenly Father has in you to teach these people, and that He trusts you enough to lead them to you, or you to them.  We had nothing to do with all the good that's been happening lately.  We owe it all to Heavenly Father.  He's the one who makes everything possible.  Christ lives.  This is His church.  He walks with each one of us on our path to discipleship.  I bear witness that each of us has the capacity and opportunity to be a part of the Lord's work.  "His purposes cannot be frustrated".  The work will go forward, regardless of us.  We have the humbling and exciting opportunity to be a part of it, and serve shoulder to shoulder with the Lord to bring about "the immortality and eternal life of man".

I love you all :)

Miracles have not ceased

I don't even know where to start guys....

This week...has been a spiritual and emotional roller-coaster.....like holy smokes...

So...to start.  Our lesson on Tuesday with Jordyn...went the exact same as last time...she's super upset cuz of silly anti stuff she's been reading....we sit there and bear testimony for like an hour...she cries and says she doesn't know what to do...
So...we decided we were just going to let her be...our hearts are just crushed at this point...but that's what the spirit's saying.
and THEN....my recent convert Sarah calls us and says she's leaving the church....RIGHT while Tracey is having her baptismal interview....so our hearts are just broken at this point, we're laying on the chapel floor.... comes out, we wipe our tears away and smile and be super happy for her that she passed.  Minute she leaves, back to super sad and struggling...not a good day, lemme tell ya.

Wednesday-MLC....super spiritual, got lots of revelation for Jordyn and what she needs, it's awesome.

Thursday-Prepping Zone Council, putting together a FIRE meeting, super stoked.

Friday-Fire Zone Council drops, Spirit testifies, everyone's crying, Hamilton zone is translated.  word

Saturday-Weekly planning, prepping for Tracey's baptism, and some appointments.

SUNDAY.....- we're over teaching our returning member.....when JORYDN CALLS us....we haven't talked to her all week....replay conversation
Jordyn: Hey guys, I have a question?
Us: (feeling really nervous) Sure, what's up??
Jordyn: Can I still get baptized today???:)
Us: (mouths hanging open)........ ummmmmm, what happened to you?
Jordyn: Well, I've been watching conference talks and researching and reading the Book of Mormon and praying, and I just have realized that nothing in this world has brought me more happiness and joy than the gospel, I know it's true, I've always known it's true, and I'm so sorry for what I said earlier this week...if I can't be baptized this week, I understand, and we can shoot for next week.
Us: (Elder Herbert's now fainted on the floor and I can't stop crying, gosh dang the stupid Spirit)...........................(now trying to speak words and my mouth is not moving......)

..........Can we call you back?
Jordyn: Sure!:)

Now we're calling President, and he answers and is like, "Well Elders, it sounds like she needs to be baptized today.  Get her interviewed and get her in the water!"

Jordyn had a baptismal interview during Sunday School, and was baptized Sunday night with Tracey.

Brothers and Sisters, this Church is true.  The Spirit has witnessed it to my heart over and over again, and there's nothing that has ever brought me more happiness than sharing it with these people.  I love this Church.  I love these people, but most importantly....I love the Savior Jesus Christ, and the change He works in the hearts of those who need it most.

The Lord states "I am able to do mine own work, and I will hasten my work in it's time."

He can do His own work, but He allows us to be a part of it.  I know without a doubt that the events that have transpired this week were only made possible in and through Jesus Christ.  It's His presence and love that softens hearts, and brings that mighty change.  He lives, and has worked a miracle in the life of people here that I love.

With that being said, I'm being transferred!!!  Sunday was like the happiest and saddest day of my mission....I'm headed East to Kingston, whitewashing into the area and training a new Zone Leader from my hometown, Elder Beddes!!!!  He's a stud, and I'm stoked.  I've never whitewashed before, so we'll see.  I'm excited though, we're gonna get it done.
(Cale said that white washing is when they take 2 missionaries out of an area and replace them with 2 new ones. He and Elder Beddes are both excited to be able to be companions with each other.)

I love you all:):)
